Research strategy

WP1

Tailoring the performances of upgraded WGs materials.

This WP is centred around activities primarily focused on the development of new strategies to upgrade WGs performances to meet the design requirements. The ultimate aim is to demonstrate the versatility and adaptability of WGs across diverse application contexts. The objective of WP1 is to uncover the key mechanisms which control the performance of upgraded WGs containing specific compounds, thereby producing construction materials with satisfactory specifications for various construction purposes

WP2

Assessing and guaranteeing durability

This WP focuses primarily on examining the impact of climatic and site conditions on the durability of the performances of the upgraded WGs. The main objective is to develop protocols to evaluate and ultimately guarantee the performance of an upgraded WG in the long term. We will systematically investigate different deterioration mechanisms such as weathering and effects of freeze and thaw cycles or drought. Central to this WP is the assessment of the interaction between environmental loads and long-term performance of upgraded WGs.

WP3

Designing with upgraded WGs

This WP integrates activities dedicated to developing modelling and design tools that could be implemented at the design and / or construction phases for construction using improved WGs. The aim is to establish an approach for designing with upgraded WGs and monitoring their performance effectively.

This WP will contribute to the development of solutions and tools to better understand and predict the behaviour of treated waste geomaterials and hence enhance their use in construction and mining activities.
