Mass stabilisation

This work package is focused on the ground Improvement techniques for the in situ improvement of soil masses. The target properties are related to geotechnical and geoenvironmental issues associated to these soils masses. The stabilised soil material that is produced through the class of improvement techniques based on admixtures of binders has generally a higher strength and lower compressibility than the native soil.

From the technical background several scientific issues can be identified and validly explored during the research activities of GeoStab network. The research are addressed

  • to enlarge the knowledge about interaction between grouts and soil
  • to improve the suitability of these techniques in terms of operational issues and quality of the treatment
  • to increase the modelling capability of stabilised soil mass for design purposes
  • to reduce the impact of the techniques (societal, economical and environmental issues)
  • to address the techniques to specific environmental issues
