GeoStab is a research network focusing on solidification and stabilisation for sustainable management of problematic soils established with the support of the French National Research Agency under the responsibility of the Université de Lorraine. The creation of this research network is in line with the first societal challenges identified within the call for proposal Strategic Agenda ″Efficient resource management and adaptation to climate change″ and within the European Research Programme ″Horizon 2020″ challenge ″Climate action, resource efficiency and raw materials″.
The GeoStab network gathers necessary knowledge to analyse, design and construct structures, and to provide solutions to problems in the stabilisation and solidification of problematic materials in the fields of geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. The overall aim of the project is to provide durable treatment solutions for the stabilisation and solidification of different types. The main issue of the network is how to reach a design value by treatment from a raw material (soil, tailings, etc.) and to how assess the time-dependant alteration of these performances because of on-site conditions (climate, water circulation, etc.). The research will promote a network of partners in the area of soil stabilisation / solidification with a focus on sustainable methods. It will also foster the protection and sustainable management of natural resources for construction. The involvement of private partners reflects their will to increase competitiveness of soil-construction-waste treatment-related industries.
